Working in admissions at Encore Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Lynn Davis meets a wide variety of people. “I just love people and I love to hear their stories and about their families. I love to talk, and the residents just make it awesome,” Davis states. Davis has been working in the healthcare industry for sixteen years. “I will be working here until they admit me,” Davis says with a laugh. “In all seriousness, I plan on doing this the rest of my life. I have always wanted to work with people. It is not just a job to me. It is my purpose,” Davis adds.
“It is important to not dread going to work. My mama always said, ‘The day you wake up and dread going to work, you need to get out.’ You have to love what you do, and I absolutely love my job,” Davis explains.
Previously to working at Encore Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Davis ran an in-home daycare center and also worked at First Baptist Church. “Originally, when this job became available, I came for the social work. I always liked being with people and I wanted to help them,” Davis says.
“You have to make sure it is what you want to do. It is not a half-hearted thing, and you cannot see it as a job. I always told my girls and my son to make sure it is what you want to do. Whoever you are, you have to live the job. You just have to,” Davis contends.
Davis claims that the job has been flexible, but, “sometimes you have to come after hours or stay after hours to get the job done, but the hours have never been a problem for me,” Davis adds.
Encore Healthcare and Rehabilitation is very proud of its facility. “We moved to Moline Street in 2014, but before that we were at Dyer Street for sixty years. We are a ninety-five bed facility. We have a salon with a stylist that is here Thursday and Friday of every week. Our patients get therapy when needed. Mostly, we just want them to be comfortable and feel right at home,” Davis adds while showing off the new facility.
“I really like working in admissions because I get to meet so many great new people and hear their stories. I really could not ask for a better job. And I just love people,” Davis adds.
Davis is incredibly proud of her job and the work that Encore Healthcare and Rehabilitation does for its’ patients. “Whatever you do, or wherever you work, be proud of what you do. Always work to the best of your ability and give it your best no matter what you do. I have always told my children this.”
In addition to working at Encore Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Davis is on the Malvern City Council.
Davis’ love for people and her patients rubs off on the people around her and makes the work environment fantastic. This woman has dedicated her life to helping others and is an inspiration to all.
I just recently finished "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak. I had no idea what this novel was going to be about going into it; all I knew was that our 10th grade English class study it. Right off the bat I noticed that our narrator was not your average Joe. The narrator is death. When I realized this I said to myself, "Oh this is going to be good." The novel is all about the Holocaust and it is shown from a German point of view. Leisel Meminger's mother gives her away to a foster German family. On the trip to this new family, Leisel's brother dies. So right from the start death is there. I'm not going to give you a synopsis of it, because I think you should read it for yourself. Just know that a German family hides a Jew in their basement for a while, and death is around every corner. That last line of the novel really got me though..."I am haunted by humans."
