McClendon’s Appliance company originated in 1947. Glen McClendon took over the family business eighteen years ago. Although the company did not take on any new product lines in 2015, they carry many brands including Whirlpool, Maytag, Speed Queen, and Kitchen Aid. “2015 was much better than 2014. We did not see as many ups and downs as we did in 2014,” Mr. McClendon states. 2016 has done the business well so far. “We always strive to improve our customer experience. It does not matter if it is sales, service, or whatever it may be,” Mr. McClendon adds. McClendon’s Appliance considers Saline County a great place to do business because of the constant growth in the county. They also have many loyal customers. Some of the employees include: Virginia DuVall, who has worked there for thirty-eight years. She is the one that keeps everything in order and the business moving forward. Everyone recognizes her when they come into the store. Mrs. DuVall is considered one of the many pieces to the success of McClendon’s Appliance. “We have been here, serving Saline County, for sixty-nine years. Our business has grown over the years and will continue to grow,” Mr. McClendon contends.
I just recently finished "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak. I had no idea what this novel was going to be about going into it; all I knew was that our 10th grade English class study it. Right off the bat I noticed that our narrator was not your average Joe. The narrator is death. When I realized this I said to myself, "Oh this is going to be good." The novel is all about the Holocaust and it is shown from a German point of view. Leisel Meminger's mother gives her away to a foster German family. On the trip to this new family, Leisel's brother dies. So right from the start death is there. I'm not going to give you a synopsis of it, because I think you should read it for yourself. Just know that a German family hides a Jew in their basement for a while, and death is around every corner. That last line of the novel really got me though..."I am haunted by humans."
