Johnston’s Home Center originated in 1979 as a sewing and vases store. Over the years, it has since become a complete home center. In 2015, the home center added Husqvarna lawn equipment and the home center also had a stellar year. For 2016, the home center anticipates a good year and plans to continue what they already do. The sewing department will attend several national events in 2016. “We offer so many different types of products and there is something for everyone. Also, we service what we sell,” Mrs. Johnston states.
The owners of Johnston’s Home Center are Joe and Kristen Johnston. Their two children, Billie Jo Crocker and Robert Johnston work in the center as well. “Our company is mostly family run. Saline County is where Joe and I grew up and it’s where our children grew up,” Mrs. Johnston adds.
Billie Jo runs the sewing department and has worked there for twenty years. She is also one of the Brother’s brand top salesmen in the country. Robert has been working since he was a little boy and takes care of the technical things. He is also one of the main salespeople, especially in electronics and appliance. They also have five mechanics.
I just recently finished "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak. I had no idea what this novel was going to be about going into it; all I knew was that our 10th grade English class study it. Right off the bat I noticed that our narrator was not your average Joe. The narrator is death. When I realized this I said to myself, "Oh this is going to be good." The novel is all about the Holocaust and it is shown from a German point of view. Leisel Meminger's mother gives her away to a foster German family. On the trip to this new family, Leisel's brother dies. So right from the start death is there. I'm not going to give you a synopsis of it, because I think you should read it for yourself. Just know that a German family hides a Jew in their basement for a while, and death is around every corner. That last line of the novel really got me though..."I am haunted by humans."
