"Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped; but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death - even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." Philippians 2: 5-11
God cares about what is in your heart, so call out to Him and act like a Christian. What the Holy Spirit says, you do. Give up your sins and get right with the Lord. You need to give up something permanently, like your sins. Don't say, "There is nothing wrong with me." Tell Him there is everything wrong with you. Lent means you are in the desert with Jesus. You are getting right with Christ. Take the time to call out to Him. Jesus is cleansing this world. Lent is about self-denial. It is about what is in your heart and what is coming into your heart. Walk away from your past and walk into your future. Give up being a sinner, and he will wipe your slate clean. Lent needs to be a spiritual relationship between you and Christ. He will move you into a more positive life.
I just recently finished "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak. I had no idea what this novel was going to be about going into it; all I knew was that our 10th grade English class study it. Right off the bat I noticed that our narrator was not your average Joe. The narrator is death. When I realized this I said to myself, "Oh this is going to be good." The novel is all about the Holocaust and it is shown from a German point of view. Leisel Meminger's mother gives her away to a foster German family. On the trip to this new family, Leisel's brother dies. So right from the start death is there. I'm not going to give you a synopsis of it, because I think you should read it for yourself. Just know that a German family hides a Jew in their basement for a while, and death is around every corner. That last line of the novel really got me though..."I am haunted by humans."
