"At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. As jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being town open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: 'You are my Son, whom I love, with you I am well pleased.'" Mark 1:9-11
We have to be born again with a relationship with Jesus Christ. The books of Matthew, Mark, and Luke are all similar. They all have a birth story. The birth story in Mark is believed to be Jesus' baptism. It shows everyone that they need to be baptized. Baptism is a sacrament, like communion. Jesus is an example. When we are baptized we are being asked to be born again and work towards being better Christians. We can't use Jesus as a crutch. Without Christ there is no relationship with the Almighty God. Church is a hospital for sinners, but it isn't hospice. Jesus died for us so we could be born again so we can give our burdens and heavy weights to Him. Jesus will pick you up and put you back out there, giving you a second chance. We have to be born again spiritually, born anew, and be better today than you were yesterday. This is all possible because of jesus Christ. The most powerful give that keeps on giving - His life.
I just recently finished "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak. I had no idea what this novel was going to be about going into it; all I knew was that our 10th grade English class study it. Right off the bat I noticed that our narrator was not your average Joe. The narrator is death. When I realized this I said to myself, "Oh this is going to be good." The novel is all about the Holocaust and it is shown from a German point of view. Leisel Meminger's mother gives her away to a foster German family. On the trip to this new family, Leisel's brother dies. So right from the start death is there. I'm not going to give you a synopsis of it, because I think you should read it for yourself. Just know that a German family hides a Jew in their basement for a while, and death is around every corner. That last line of the novel really got me though..."I am haunted by humans."
