"Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgement on themselves." Romans 13: 1-2
Some people consider this a controversial scripture because of the political election coming up. But is it controversial? This scripture has nothing to do with the Republicans and the Democrats. The authority that is being talked about is God Almighty. We pray for the Christian leaders whether we are for them or against them.
With July 4th a couple of days away, we need to remember that Independence Day is more than just fireworks. You pledge to one Nation under God. We are all one together no matter who you are. Trust in God as the Almighty authority and things will change. Just because you are in a place where you feel comfortable doesn't mean you can't be lost. Darkness drains you of love and makes you feel lost, angry, and confused.
What will it take for us as a nation to leave distraction and focus on God? These three things:
1. Flee idolatry
2. Flee sexual immorality
3. Flee from all greed because it becomes our idol and is consuming
Don't take sides politically, take sides spiritually. If we become one Nation under God then there will be the BIGGEST revival ever!
I just recently finished "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak. I had no idea what this novel was going to be about going into it; all I knew was that our 10th grade English class study it. Right off the bat I noticed that our narrator was not your average Joe. The narrator is death. When I realized this I said to myself, "Oh this is going to be good." The novel is all about the Holocaust and it is shown from a German point of view. Leisel Meminger's mother gives her away to a foster German family. On the trip to this new family, Leisel's brother dies. So right from the start death is there. I'm not going to give you a synopsis of it, because I think you should read it for yourself. Just know that a German family hides a Jew in their basement for a while, and death is around every corner. That last line of the novel really got me though..."I am haunted by humans."
