Now that Maddox is a month old I figured it was time tk share his birth story. So, my water broke at about 11:30 pm on March 25th. Troyce's aunt came over to sit with Dawson and Troyce and I went to the hospital. My mom came up from the lake. I was about 2cm dilated when we got there. A couple hours later I hadn't progressed much so they started pitocin. They gave me demerol for the pain. Well, that didn't help much so they gave me fentynal right before my epidural. I was so high I could barely keep my eyes open. They came in to do my epidural, and right off the bat I told them it wasn't right. I could feel my catheter and contractions. My blood pressure also plummeted and they had to give me medicine to get it back up, plus put me on oxygen. I am still so out of it that I have no idea what is going on. After I get stabalized back, I fell asleep some. After that they realized I wasn't lying about the epidural and they got someone to come redo it. They checked me while the anesthesiologist was getting ready and I was at a 7. After my epidural was redone, they checked again and it was time. Dr. Green flew from Bryant and said we had to get him out ASAP or she was going to have to use the vacuum. Again, I'm on so many pain meds I have no idea what is going on. I pushed 4 times and he was out. The cord was wrapped around his neck twice and he didn't want to breathe. No one had told me that or that his heart rate had been a rollercoaster at the end. 11 hours of labor and 4 pushes, we have Maddox Jeramie Hamilton. We named him in memory of Troyce's late uncle: Jeramie Warren Bumgardner. We are so in love.
I just recently finished "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak. I had no idea what this novel was going to be about going into it; all I knew was that our 10th grade English class study it. Right off the bat I noticed that our narrator was not your average Joe. The narrator is death. When I realized this I said to myself, "Oh this is going to be good." The novel is all about the Holocaust and it is shown from a German point of view. Leisel Meminger's mother gives her away to a foster German family. On the trip to this new family, Leisel's brother dies. So right from the start death is there. I'm not going to give you a synopsis of it, because I think you should read it for yourself. Just know that a German family hides a Jew in their basement for a while, and death is around every corner. That last line of the novel really got me though..."I am haunted by humans."
