Well, well, well. Hello 2020. My word of the year is "Rest." Boy is that true. However, I also want to add "persevere" for this year. We recently have been working on budgeting and the snowball effect by Dave Ramsey. We are tired of living paycheck to paycheck, especially with an infant. On top of that, I want to go back and get my masters. To put the icing on the cake, I want to work on my weight loss this year also. When are you supposed to rest, Leigh Ann? As these things start to fall into place, I will become at peace. When I reach that milestone, then I will rest. I am a very stressed and anxious person. I was born stressed it seems. With that being said, I am always stressed out, even when I'm not. I'm not saying that it is going to be an easy year, but it will be a successful year. I have something coming for ya'll when we get to our new house. It will be one of the biggest motivators in this journey. I also chose "persevere" because sometimes we just have to keep pushing and we need a boost. I am so glad to have the support team that I do. My church, my family, and my friends are the best. I couldn't ask for more. I will not tell you how much debt we are carrying over in to 2020, especially with buying a new house. However, at the end of 2020 I will tell you where we started and where we ended up. I also will hopefully be getting back into writing. I sat down over Thanksgiving break and worked on my novella. The words flew out of me onto the screen and I felt at peace. In 2020 I am going to work on revising my current short stories and work on creating new ones in hopes of publication. I will do my absolute best to keep you guys up to date and in the know!
I just recently finished "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak. I had no idea what this novel was going to be about going into it; all I knew was that our 10th grade English class study it. Right off the bat I noticed that our narrator was not your average Joe. The narrator is death. When I realized this I said to myself, "Oh this is going to be good." The novel is all about the Holocaust and it is shown from a German point of view. Leisel Meminger's mother gives her away to a foster German family. On the trip to this new family, Leisel's brother dies. So right from the start death is there. I'm not going to give you a synopsis of it, because I think you should read it for yourself. Just know that a German family hides a Jew in their basement for a while, and death is around every corner. That last line of the novel really got me though..."I am haunted by humans."
