"Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdelene. When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, 'Dear woman, here is your son,' and to the disciple, 'Here is your mother.' From that time on, this disciple took her into his home." John 19:25-27
Jesus was dependent on Mary. At this time, women were not respected, not honored, they were on the same level with a child, a criminal. It was different in the Old Testament. They used to have to have a man to take care of them. Mom's make us feel better. In His dying moments, He still takes care of His mother. He tells John to take care of her. Why John? James was next in line, Jesus' half brother. James didn't except Jesus until after He ascended into heaven. Jesus was worried about His mother's spirituality. He chose John because He followed Jesus. Be thankful for Godly women. God's love is compared to the love of a woman. He created us in His image. Everything God has done is because He loves us. He's concerned about us, the wounded, the lost. God took care of all of us. Jesus died for everyone's sins. John protected Mary until her dying day, even when he was exiled.
I just recently finished "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak. I had no idea what this novel was going to be about going into it; all I knew was that our 10th grade English class study it. Right off the bat I noticed that our narrator was not your average Joe. The narrator is death. When I realized this I said to myself, "Oh this is going to be good." The novel is all about the Holocaust and it is shown from a German point of view. Leisel Meminger's mother gives her away to a foster German family. On the trip to this new family, Leisel's brother dies. So right from the start death is there. I'm not going to give you a synopsis of it, because I think you should read it for yourself. Just know that a German family hides a Jew in their basement for a while, and death is around every corner. That last line of the novel really got me though..."I am haunted by humans."
